What is unique about this course?

  1. A course that will enable therapists to treat patients they previously could not because of the patient’s pain level. It gives therapists a unique skill they can’t get anywhere else.
  2. Using exercise as the primary approach for managing pain and preventing recurrence, participants gain the confidence for early exercise prescription and rehabilitation, with little chance of aggravating the condition.
  3. Eighty percent of workshop time is clinical.
  4. A revolutionary, evidence-based treatment approach is taught, with a strong emphasis on early rehabilitation and active manual therapy.
  5. Pre-course online reading is provided, helping to save time and allow ample in-course participation.
  6. Ample time is given to master the techniques taught so that clinical application is enhanced.
  7. Evidence based outcomes are emphasised with assessment forms provided for easy evaluation of the techniques taught.
  8. A modified manual therapy component is taught, consisting of:
    • Dynamic oscillatory mobilisation
    • End of range over pressure
    • Breathing
    • Awareness through movement
  9. The combination of these techniques has not been described previously and has been proven clinically.

You Will Learn

  • Clinical assessment of spinal pain (lumbar, cervical, and thoracic spine).
  • Application of isometric exercise as an effective treatment for tendinopathy and overall pain relief.
  • Reconciling biomechanics with pain science.
  • Dynamic oscillatory mobilization.
  • End range proprioceptor activation.
  • Functional Breathing Integration.
  • Awareness through movement.
  • Be able to treat patients with unresolved or acute pain.
  • Unique exercise prescription to manage and prevent recurrence of pain.

Arie Michaeli MSc PT, MCMT

Arie graduated as a physical therapist from the world-renowned Wingate Institute in Israel where he also completed a one-year post-graduate diploma in Manual Therapy. He emigrated to South Africa in 1985, where in 1992 he obtained a master’s degree in Physical Therapy majoring in Orthopaedics, from the University of the Witwatersrand.

With over 30 years of clinical experience and research, Arie has developed the Exercise and Function without Pain (EFWP) concept, a dynamic manual therapy approach that utilizes a combination of isometric exercise, active physiological oscillatory mobilisation, and end-of-range passive stretching. The Exercise and Function without Pain workshop has been presented over 30 times in Southern Africa.
