Laboratory accreditation is the gold standard in electrodiagnostic excellence. Learn more about the Federation of Electrodiagnostic Laboratory Accreditation and how it can supercharge your physical therapy practice.

The Benchmark for Excellence and Safety in Electrodiagnostic Exams
The Federation of Electrodiagnostic Laboratory Accreditation (FELA) is an organization that was initiated by three leading organizations in clinical electrophysiology: the American Academy of Clinical Electrodiagnosis (AACE), The American Physical Therapy Association’s Academy of Clinical Electrophysiology and Wound Management (ACEWM), and the ACEWM Electrodiagnostics SIG.
The Value of EDX Lab Accreditation
The FELA was formed to recognize electrodiagnostic labs that meet high levels of quality, patient safety, and follow accepted standards of care in electrodiagnostics. The process of electrodiagnostic laboratory accreditation is voluntary but strongly encouraged. Accredited labs demonstrate to the public, referral sources, and to third party payers that electrodiagnostic studies are performed with the highest standards and patient safety in mind.
More Specifically the FELA:
- Demonstrates clinical excellence in EDX medicine.
- Proves a laboratory’s commitment to providing the highest quality health care and a safe environment for patients.
- Provides patients, referral sources, and payers with a credible measure to differentiate the laboratory’s quality of care.
- Demonstrates to electrodiagnostic trainees (residents and fellows) that your laboratories provide the best quality electrodiagnostic environment in which to learn.
Why Should Payers Consider EDX Laboratory Accreditation?
Private and public payers need a tool to identify quality EDX studies. FELA’s program helps payers to be sure their payments are made to providers trained to perform EDX testing and who use the appropriate equipment, are onsite, and provide real-time diagnosis. This ensures patient safety, best quality, lowest cost, and helps payers avoid paying for fraudulent services.
